NUC Ranks University Of Ibadan As Best University In Nigeria

University of Jos (UNIJOS) has been named as one of the best among second generation Universities in the country in 2015 ranking of the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC).

The University was ranked the best after Ilorin.

A statement signed by Abdullahi Abdullahi, Principal Officer Assistant Registrar, Information and Publication of the university, noted that: “The second generation Universities are the 12 universities established between 1970 and 1985 to meet the increasing need for university education in Nigeria especially in the area of Science and Technology.”

Abduallhi said: “University of Jos was however ranked 7th in the overall ranking of all Federal, State and Private Universities in Nigeria.”

NUC named the University of Ibadan in overall first position while Covenant University was rated as the best private University in Nigeria.



Similarly, a student of UNIJOS bagged First Class among his peers in the November 2015 Bar Final Examination of Nigerian Law School, Bwari, Abuja.

The student, Okwor Keneth Ononeze was among the 2013/2014 graduates of the university.

Secretary to the Council and Director of Administration, Council of Legal Education, Mrs Max-Uba conveyed this through a letter of commendation to the university, addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Hayward Mafuyai.

Mafuyai described the ranking as clear recognition of the enormous work being done in the university.

“It was encouraging that the university was being appreciated for the impact it is creating towards human capital development in the country, noting that the ranking was consistent with the University’s global rating.

“If not for some challenges, the University could have achieved greater success. I enjoin all stakeholders to rally round towards ensuring that the University achieves its full potential,” he said.

While expressing his excitement at Ononeze’s performance at the Final Bar Exam of the Nigerian Law School, Mafuyai commended the efforts of Lecturers and other Staff in the University whom he said are sacrificing a lot to ensure that the Students get the best education.

He assured that the University administration would not rest on its oars towards making the University the choice destination for all its academic programmes.

ExxonMobil engineer rapes teenager, gives her N1,000 to console her

A staff of Mobil Producing Nigeria (ExxonMobil), a multinational oil and gas corporation, identified simply as James, has allegedly raped a 14-year-old girl in the Lekki area of Lagos State.

James, an engineer, who is also the landlord of the house where the victim’s guardians live, gave the girl N1, 000 to pacify her after the incident and cautioned her against revealing what transpired between them, The Punch reports.

On the contrary, the three-year-old daughter of the tenant, who witnessed the rape, was said to have exposed the suspect and the case was subsequently reported at the Langbasa Police Division from where the victim was taken to a medical centre in the Eti-Osa Local Government Area.

According to reports, the test result showed that there was a forceful penetration, while semen was also recovered from the victim’s private parts.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmus, who confirmed the incident, said the suspect had been arrested and the case transferred to Zone 2 Command, Onikan.

She said, “The police have arrested the man and he has been taken to Zone 2 because a petition was also sent to Zone 2 on the matter.”

Meanwhile, a human rights organization, Women Association of The Good People, which reportedly took up the case, urged the authorities to give justice to the victim.

The group in a statement said the incident happened last Monday while the tenant, who was the victim’s uncle, was away from home.

“On Monday, January 4, 2016, Mr. James, who works with ExxonMobil and who is also a landlord of a property on the Lagos Island, raped a 14-year-old who happened to be the niece of his tenant.

“He decided to visit the home of his tenant who had advised him earlier that they wouldn’t be at home. Only the 14-year-old niece and their three-year-old daughter were at home on that faithful day.

“James knocked on the door of the flat and was attended to by the 14-year-old who told the landlord that her uncle and aunt were not home. He, however, insisted on entering the home of his tenant to wait for them.

“The naive girl, who had only been in Lagos for three weeks, opened the door and allowed him in,” the statement added.

The suspect was said to have checked round the house and realizing that the victim’s custodians were not at home, he was said to have started a conversation with the victim, asking for her name, age and other details.

“James pushed the young girl on the bed and, while she tried to scream, he covered her mouth and forcefully had his way with her in the presence of the three-year-old.

“In a bid to console her after the act, he gave her N1, 000 and left.

“Her aunt came home and met her hysterical and inconsolable. After asking repeatedly what happened and the girl was unable to answer, the three-year-old daughter recounted the story to her mother, saying, ‘Mummy, landlord came, he pushed ‘the unidentified’ on the bed and he do like this…like this… on top of her,’ describing to her mum and innocently recreating the movements she saw,” the statement added.

A medical report was said to have been obtained the following morning, which confirmed a case of rape.

The woman (the victim’s aunt) was said to have reported to her husband, before the case was reported at the police station.

The suspect was, however, said to be at large and did not respond to police invitation.

The statement further read, “As of January 8, James failed to report to the police station at 9am as he had promised. Instead, he called the victim’s family (his tenants) repeatedly and tried to convince them to meet him. His calls prior to this were threats to evict them.

“We are concerned citizens saddened by the incident, which numerous bodies are also aware of. But the suspect is yet to be apprehended,” the statement said.

The Manager, Media and Communications, Mobil Producing Nigeria, Oge Udeagha, reacting to the claims against its staff, said the company was aware of the matter.

An email from Udeagha reads in part, “Mobil Producing Nigeria, operator of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation NNPC/MPN Joint Venture, confirms that the police authorities on January 11, 2016, notified it of an alleged case of defilement brought against one of our personnel that is unrelated to his duties with the company.

“MPN promptly notified the employee of the police invitation and advised he make himself available to the authorities as requested.

“MPN has the highest regards for the law and has offered assurances of our full support with investigations, if required, to police authorities. We understand he is already cooperating with the police.”

NYSC Bars Posting Engineers To Teach In Secondary Schools

The National Youth Service Corps has concluded plans to halt the posting of engineers to secondary schools and other places of primary assignment different from Engineering Institutions. The agreement was reached by the Directorate of NYSC and Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).

Speaking at the Pre-Inauguration stakeholders’ workshop of the 30th President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers held yesterday in Abuja, the President of COREN, Engineer Kashim A. Ali, disclosed that the Council has secured an agreement with the Director General of NYSC to what he referred to as prevention of wrong training of Engineers. He also said that the Director of Mobilization of NYSC has also been notified of the new development and they have fashioned modalities for its success.

Ali said “Posting engineers during their service year to places they will not benefit is depriving them the opportunity of training and by implication the country is losing. The DG of NYSC agreed with us and directed the Director of Mobilization to ensure that engineers are posted to only engineering institutions.

“To help him, the Director of Mobilization requested that we should assist to give them the names of engineering organizations in all the states of the federation so that when they are doing their posting they will send them to such places.”

Switzerland To Transfer $300Million Abacha Loot To Nigeria – Minister

The government of Switzerland is prepared to transfer to the Nigerian government, another $300 million recovered from the family of former military ruler, Sani Abacha, foreign minister, Geoffrey Onyeama, announced Monday.
The money is part of an estimated $5 billion stolen and stashed in foreign accounts by the late dictator.
Nigeria has in the last 10 years received over $1 billion from the Swiss and American governments, but there are growing concerns past administrations misused the huge sum.
PREMIUM TIMES reported in December 2015 how former finance minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, with the approval of former President Goodluck Jonathan, authorised the diversion of at least N61.4 billion ($300 million and £5.5 million) from funds recovered from Mr. Abacha, to the Office of the National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, few weeks before the 2015 presidential election.
The former minister said the money, which was not approved by the National Assembly, was meant for purchase of military equipment for the fight against Boko Haram.
The money is believed to be part of at least $2.1 billion slush fund later distributed by Mr. Dasuki to politicians ahead of the polls. An ongoing investigation into the scandal as led to the indictment of several high profile figures.

Boko Haram's Failed Attack At Prophet TB Joshua's Synagogue Church Of All Nations Today!

 

A young man allegedly a bomber sent by Boko Haram to cause havoc  at Synagogue Church Of All Nations confessed LIVE on Prophet TB Joshua's Emmanuel TV today!

According to the man who identified himself as Mustapha from Adamawa State, he and 4 others had been sent to blow up the church. He said when 5 of them eventually got to the SCOAN junction, they tried to give
one mallam a bag to keep which was containing a metre bomb, but the mallam refused.

So they entered a restaurant wich was very close to church. They were eating and watching SCOAN when the man of God started praying for viewers. He said the prayers caused confusion. 4 of them took off but Mustapha was arrested by the power God and he came inside the church and started confessing, telling the congragation how TB Joshua scattered their plans.
